(1935-2006) Born in Waco, North Carolina. American professional boxer, 1952-1972. He twice reigned as the World Heavyweight Champion. At the age of 21 he became the youngest boxer to ever win the title, and he was the first heavyweight to regain the title after losing it. He won a gold medal in the middleweight division at the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinki, Finland. Patterson is recognized as one of the best heavyweights of all time. In 1956 and 1960, he was voted "Fighter of the Year" by "The Ring Magazine," and the "Boxers Association of America." Floyd Patterson was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1991.
