George W.E. Dorsey, enlisted on December 27, 1861, as a 1st lieutenant, and was commissioned into Co. G, 6th West Virginia Infantry. He was discharged for promotion on May 18, 1864, and was commissioned captain, U.S. Volunteers Commissary Department. He mustered out of service on August 3, 1865, with rank of brevet major.
