New Orleans, circa 1840's. Large vignette at the center of a superimposed "20" surrounded by angels. "20" is also at all 4 corners of the note. Steamship at bottom, with a male figure at the left, and a female figure wearing a hat at the right. Fancy red reverse with "20 TWENTY 20" at the center. Plate A. Published by Toppan, Carpenter & Co., Phil., & N.Y. This is an unissued remainder note, and does not have a serial number, date or signatures on it. Originally stored in the Canal Bank's vault waiting to be issued, it has remained in crisp uncirculated condition for approximately 180 years! This obsolete New Orleans bank note would make a great addition to any currency collection.
