Ace pitcher of the Cleveland Indians
Served in the United States Navy during World War II
Led the American League in strike outs 7 times, in wins 6 times, and pitched 3 no hitters
(1918-2010) Born in Van Meter, Iowa, he earned the nicknames of "Bullet Bob," and "Rapid Robert" during his 18 year MLB career, all with the Cleveland Indians. This right handed starting pitching ace made his debut at 17 years old, and was known for his blazing fastball. His career was interrupted in 1942 during WWII when he enlisted in the United States Navy serving onboard the USS Alabama as a chief petty officer. Feller towed the slab for the Indians from (1936-1956) and had the following career statistics: pitched in 570 games; won 266 games; lost 162 games; 3,827 innings pitched; 2,581 strike outs; 348 strike outs in 1946 which was the most in a single season since 1904; 279 complete games; 44 shut outs; 3 no hitters; 12- 1 hitters; was selected to the American League All Star team 8 times; led the American League in strike outs 7 times; and led the American League in wins 6 times. He was a member of the 1948 World Champion Cleveland Indians. Bob Feller was elected to the MLB Hall of Fame in 1962.
